This is the picture which I promised yesterday, of Ashley on the trampoline, sitting still, hair spread wide by the static build-up. Kinda fun.
Photographing leaves … and a surprise. :)
Yesterday evening I set out to photograph leaves of several of our trees (columnar oak, crimson sentry maple, a flowering pear tree for which I am at a loss to its name, cherry, purple ash, and another unspecified maple) as reference material to try painting them on the iPad (another story altogether).
While I was out and about in the yard taking photos, the girls were on the trampoline. I went over and was amazed at my daughter’s head … she had built up so much static electricity that her hair was literally standing on end all around her head — 12 inches of hear just pointing straight out from her head in every direction.
I’ll get the picture of my daughter uploaded later on. For now, it’s getting lots of laughs around home.
I also managed to get some nice reference photos of an elegantly beautiful purple/white-flowered columbine plant, which I may try painting as well.
Oh, and yes, the leaf pictures did turn out very well. While they’d never win a photo competition of any sort (unless I was the only entrant) they certainly will work lovely for some reference material.
Fitness 2012…
So the fact is that I’m sorta overweight. Well, really overweight (compared to what I should be). 5 1/2 years ago I was running regularly and a lot lighter than I am now. I was getting 30 to 40 miles a week of running, and was doing a bit of biking and rowing along with it.
Well, those days ended when I left Novell and its amazing on-site fitness center. Gone were the lunch-time workouts. Up went the weight. I took a bit of the weight off last summer, and then put a small portion of that back on, still with a net loss of 20 pounds.
So here’s the new plan for this summer:
- I get a target date in mind
- I define some fitness goals
- I blog about the progress towards those goals
With that in mind, here are my goals:
- Complete a 10k race in 60 minutes on July 24
- Drop down to 175 pounds (I’m 198 at the moment)
- Be able (eventually) to do 100 pushups
Those are simple and straightforward goals. With those in mind, it’s easy to track progress. I may or may not track calories. But the tracking of those goals should make it work out.
Bring on the summer!
New Site
Ok, so those of you who know me already know that I have changed JediRunner.com about, well, 250 times over the last few years. And so it goes again. Playing around with WordPress to see how well it holds up to what I want to do.
